Nikon no longer supports their scanning software and haven’t for some years. SF has a steeper learning curve, but the time saved when scanning and editing may make it worth the cost.īoth programs use the advanced hardware features of the CS 5000 and would be my first choices for you. It’s advanced color correction and the ability to batch process the scans is about the best in the industry. If you have a large number of slides/negs and they need color correcting or are faded, dirty and/or scratched then Silverfast ( ) would be the way to go. The software is fairly straightforward and most people can being using it with minimal assistance from their support or online videos etc.
I would highly recommend taking a look at Vuescan ( ) as it’s both affordable and utilizes some of the advanced features for dealing with scratches and dust.

The scan software itself installs and opens fine, but when I power on the scanner, I get the message that the driver was found but that the install failed because 'the specified file was not found'. 2- Download the modified scanner driver here - scanners.
